Mission To Padang Pariaman

Hady sweating it out and other fellow mercy reliefers.

As non-governmental humanitarian charity Mercy Relief’s Goodwill Ambassador to Indonesia, Singapore and Asian Idol Hady Mirza went to Padang Pariaman from 11 – 13 October 2009 as part of its relief mission to extend aid to those afflicted by the Sumatra Earthquake. Hady visited the areas of devastation where homes and schools lay shattered by the impact of the disaster. During the relief operation, Hady personally distributed food and other relief supplies such as hygiene kits to the affected community. Though it’s his first time at a disaster site, Hady walked the ground like a seasoned aid worker as he took time to sincerely listen to the villagers’ stories and chatted warmly with them.

Hady’s quote: “I found myself very much affected by what I've seen. Everything, their homes and their loved ones, gone in a matter of minutes. As much as we feel their pain, it must be a lot worse for them having gone through it themselves. Their resilience and strength to move on really inspire me. This is as much a test for them, as it is for us. I am only one person but at least it means an extra pair of hands for those affected. By helping to get food and other necessities to the people as soon as possible, I’m really just doing the least I can.”

Phyllis Quek to star in Kidnapper!

Acclaimed Singapore film maker Kelvin Tong’s latest project – the suspense thriller Kidnapper – tells story of an ordinary taxi driver’s love and determination to rescue his kidnapped son. Phyllis played a woman with a past, where her character is blackmailed by her ex boyfriend (played by Jack Lim) and forced to be his partner in crime to kidnap her own step son.

“I have to deal with a lot of emotional scenes…constantly putting myself in character…to the point that I have problem sleeping!” said Phyllis.

Kidnapper is slated to release in March/ April 2010.
